I’ve had over 10 years of youth and schools work, and I’m currently working for an amazing ministry who themselves have 20 years experience of schools work in the city of Chelmsford.
We serve the secondary schools, supporting lunch time groups called Emerge. We’re asked to go into schools at talk about the Christian perspectives on sexuality, war and peace and prejudice and discrimination to name but a few. Recently we have started week-long prayer spaces in schools, where as part of their RE curriculum come and explore aspects of prayer and spirituality that can’t be found in a text-book.
We have also been mentoring some students in a number of the schools who have been referred through the pastoral departments. Often theses students have behavioural issues or are lacking in some social skills, so it’s a great opportunity to serve the school and invest in the individuals who need a bit of extra support.
